We’re looking forward to the start of the season following a winning friendly match

At the end of September, the Andersen League gets underway, with twelve teams competing for the trophy this season. In the run-up to the start, we hosted Lehel HC on Saturday for a pre-season friendly at the Győr University Ice Sports Centre. The Jászberény side are no strangers to us: in recent years we have fought several closely contested battles against them in the Andersen League play-offs, so the match was once again played in a tense, electric atmosphere.

The visitors took the lead early in the match when the puck ended up in our net off Károly’s stick. However, the response was not long in coming: first Szilárd Gál equalised, then Sebestyén Csata’s goal put us in the lead by the end of the first period. In the second period, we managed to extend our lead further; thanks to a goal from Botond Horváth and another goal from Csata, we were now three goals ahead.

In the final third, several avoidable sending-offs disrupted our rhythm, which Lehel exploited mercilessly. Goals from Rőczei, Maximus and, once again, Károly levelled the score by the end of normal time. This was followed by five minutes of three-on-three extra time, where we picked up where we left off last year: Márk Almási decided the match by scoring the winning goal.

This match was an important milestone in our preparations. It showed that we are capable of building up a multi-goal lead against a strong opponent, whilst also serving as a reminder of just how important discipline is throughout the season. The young players and the experienced ones combined to form a formidable team, and the victory secured in extra time gives us confidence for the rest of the season.

There is still time to fine-tune the details before the league kicks off, but the victory in the pre-season friendly lays a solid foundation for us to look forward to the start of the 2025/26 season with confidence.
