We got off to a flying start in the EUHL play-offs on home turf!

This is our team’s second season competing in the international university league, the EUHL, and this year we’ve managed to secure a place in the play-offs; what’s more, we finished fourth in the table, which means we have home advantage.

In the battle to reach the top four, we were drawn against UNIZA from Žilina; the fact that we had secured confident victories over them both at home and away during the regular season gave us cause for optimism.

We were able to play the first two matches of the best-of-three series at home; the two teams faced off on both Thursday and Friday evenings at the Győr Ice Sports Centre.

Győr’s dominance was evident from the very first minute of the match, and it lasted for 2×60 minutes. We took the lead early on in Thursday’s match, made good use of our man advantage, and Martin Sipák was well positioned. 1–0

Ten minutes later, we found ourselves with another man advantage, which we were once again able to capitalise on: Bendegúz Jábor had a clear shot at goal. 2–0

With less than 3 minutes to go before half-time, we found ourselves with another man-up situation, which we were able to capitalise on this time through Barnabás Majoross. 3–0

The chaotic play continued after the break, and 10 minutes later it paid off when Benedek Madácsi cleverly pounced on a loose puck. 4–0

Four minutes later, the puck stuck to Bendegúz Jábor, and eventually found its way into the visitors’ net. 5–0

We got off to a flying start in the final period, with István Szűcs finishing off a fine attack with precision in the very first minute. 6–0

A few minutes later, we found ourselves with a man advantage once again, which we were able to capitalise on very effectively in this match; this time, Yulian Tovkach was the one to finish it off. 7–0

There was still some energy left at the end; following a skilful move to win the puck, Sebestyén Csata managed to beat the Žilina goalkeeper, sealing the final score. 8–0

We got off to a brilliant start in the series, and our good run continued in the second match – on Friday: in the first period of that match, we literally swept aside the Žilina team, scoring 7 goals in 20 minutes!

With his season in the Netherlands now over, Bence Dézsi, returning to EUHL action, managed to score a hat-trick in a single period! Alongside Martin Sipák and Nikita Bogdanov, Bence Makovics and Benedek Madácsi also got on the scoresheet.

The visitors were visibly shaken after the first period, with minor and major fouls becoming more frequent on both sides; goal-scoring in the remaining two periods was reduced to one goal every 20 minutes: István Szűcs scored midway through the second period, whilst Márk Vas found the net early in the final period, setting the final score at 9–0.

**We’ve got off to a great start in the EUHL play-offs, and we could even secure our place in the next round as early as Sunday in Žilina.
