We beat the Ikonok too!

As the Andersen League regular season drew to a close, we took to the ice as guests of the MAC Ikonok at the Kisstadion on Saturday evening.

The first period was a thoroughly even contest, with the home side’s experienced players leaving no doubt that they would ruthlessly capitalise on every mistake. And so they did: in the 10th minute, Oroszi scored the capital side’s opening goal (fortunately, this was the only time in the match that our opponents were in the lead), but the response came swiftly, with our captain Matyi Odnoga, who was recovering from illness, equalised within less than 50 seconds. There were no further goals before the break, so we were able to take to the ice with a ‘clean slate’ in the second period.

At this stage, the teams had managed to find the back of the net far more often; we opened the scoring through Majoross and Odnoga, to which Jászai replied. A back-and-forth exchange ensued, with Papp first countering Tompos and then Gusarov, whilst Németh had the final say in response to goals from Nesterov* and Lévai just a few minutes before the end of the period.

By the final quarter, we had completely overwhelmed our opponents and the Győr ‘goal machine’ had really got going. Márk Nagy scored a hat-trick, but Nesterov, Szalai, Tompos and Makovics also found the net, sealing a 5:14 final score!

The match was interesting in several respects: Two of our young players, DONÁT SZALAI and ÁKOS TOMPOS, have both scored their first goals in the Andersen League! Congratulations! With this victory, it’s now certain that we’ll finish the Andersen League’s regular season in FIRST PLACE! Huge congratulations to the lads! We have two more matches to play in the regular season (both at home), and then the play-offs begin, where it has also been confirmed that we will face Lehel HC in the battle for a place in the top four! Come on, UNI GYŐR ETO!
